World’s Edge Map Update and Competitive Changes

Season 28 is bringing a refreshing update to World’s Edge, which is one of the most iconic battlegrounds in Apex Legends. This map change will address long-standing issues about landing zones while improving overall match flow. This redesign will focus on making the environment suitable for high-competitive play.

The update will also adjust loot density and power positions throughout the map. According to data miners, specific points of interest will receive modifications to create more balanced engagements. This will also reduce overcrowding in popular drop locations.

Aside from the competitive changes, leaks are hinting at a possible introduction of a new elite weapon. It appears as a modified version of an existing gun with enhanced statistics that exclusively spawns in high-tier zones. This addition will introduce a fresh risk-versus-reward dynamic to mid and late-game fights.

Ranked Play Overhaul and Entry Cost Adjustments

This upcoming Season 28 will also adjust entry costs for mid-tier ranks such as Gold and Platinum. With this, it will create a more skill-dependent climbing experience for many. It’s one of the steps of developers to discourage passive playstyles that affect ranked matches in previous seasons.

The Season 28 system will reward aggressive and strategic play instead by shifting the RP gains back toward active combat participation and eliminations. It will target the “ratting” meta where players hide until the final circles. Only then they would gain placement points despite not engaging in meaningful encounters.

Mythic Cosmetics and Heirloom Roadmap

Aside from major map and gameplay changes, Season 28 is also introducing new cosmetic contents. The roadmap starts with the arrival of Horizon prestige skin “Velo Winter” during Season 27 Split 2. Following the release is the reactive Bocek skin for the Season 28 Battle Pass.

For Season 28 Split 1, expect to see the highly anticipated Saber heirloom alongside a Whip heirloom milestone event. What makes this release special is the inclusion of a mythic deathbox feature. It will be the first cosmetic item that displays a deathbox upon eliminating opponents.

Previously, these customizations were reserved for the most expensive collection events. Moreover, the Season 28 Split 2 continues with their premium content releases with a Peacekeeper mythic skin for Shotgun. Accompanying this is the Fuse Prestige skin codenamed “Breach Charged.”

Star Wars Collaboration and Anniversary Celebration

Beyond these additions, many appear excited for the rumored Star Wars collaboration event in Season 28. The leaked files revealed referencing themed skins for eight different legends including Octane, Valkyrie, and Revenant. This collaboration will likely coincide with the Apex Legends anniversary in February 2026. The event may bring themed map takeovers, limited-time modes, and integration of Saber and Whip heirlooms.

Wildcard System Expansion

Respawn also seeks to expand the wildcard system with the Season 28 introducing randomized perks into matches. These modifiers will include increased movement speed, cooldown adjustments, and other gameplay-altering effects. Although the wildcard system remains controversial, it still adds variety to casual matches.

Conclusion

Apex Legends is about to get exciting as the Season 28 approaches alongside their 7th anniversary milestone. This season will bring in big adjustments and overhaul to one of the favorites, World’s Edge, in the game. On the other hand, fans are yet to wait for Respawn’s confirmation of their crossover with the Star Wars franchise.
