All Origami Butterfly Locations
To begin this quest, look for a woman called the Gamemaker in the area west of Katano Castle. When you talk to her, she’ll explain that she created a children’s game. This game is about origami butterflies she hid throughout Osaka. However, there seems to be no children playing it.
Every one of the 10 origami butterflies hidden by the Gamemaker can be found on trees within Osaka. Here’s every The Butterfly Collector quest locations you need to visit:
- Purple Butterfly – Located north of the main island and west of Nishinomaru Garden, on a tree next to a lantern by the water
- Green Butterfly – Found three streets down from Location 1. It’s on a tree inside a house’s backyard. Cimb the roof of the house to see it clearly.
- White Butterfly (Richo’s note) – On a tree near the bridge just a few steps away from Location 2. This first white butterfly contains a note and unlocks the “All Will Be Well” subquest.
- White Butterfly (Sucho’s note) – From Location 3, go to the other side of the bridge and head south, on the path further along the river. When the path makes a slight turn, you can find this butterfly on a tree among the bushes. It contains another note about kidnappings and unlocks the “One That Got Away” subquest.
- Yellow Butterfly – Go back up the path until you get to the bridge. Then, walk westward and look for a tree among the houses to your right. The butterfly is sitting on the tree’s base.
- White Butterfly (Mucho’s note) – Continue along the path you walked to get to Location 5. You’ll eventually get to a spot closest to the north river. You’ll once again find a tree among the bushes, and that’s where the butterfly is. This contains the final note as well as unlocks the “For the Sake of Sake” and “Find the Child” subquests.
- Red Butterfly – Located within the Temple of Osaka area, on a tree to the north of it.
- Blue Butterfly – Can be found west of the Temple of Osaka, on a tree behind a shrine. It’ll be easy to spot when you see a Torii gate.
- Orange Butterfly – Head southeast of the Temple of Osaka. You can find it on a tree by the river, beside some small huts.
- Pink Butterfly – Head westward on the path nearby Location 9 until you are north of the bridge to Sakai. The tree with the butterfly should be between two stables in the areas near the river.
The Butterfly Collector Continued Quest Locations
Once you’ve collected all the white butterflies, you can now start and complete the subquests you unlocked along the way. This will include four assassination quests as well as other, shorter ones. - Go to the southwest corner of Osaka near the southern bridge
- Find Shucho searching for a child by a fence and assassinate her

- Head to Kojo Ruins on the island west of Osaka
- Find the child talking to Mucho (who flees when spotted)
- Assassinate Mucho immediately to save time
- If Mucho got away, hunt for her in Kojo Ruins
- When you help the child get home, his father will point you to a paper merchant near the Temple of Osaka.
All Will be Well, Forest Fugitive, Safe as Sandals – Richo
- Head to the burnt well north of the Temple of Osaka
- Hear the conversation between two workers nearby
- Go to the bamboo grove north of Osaka Castle, as mentioned in the conversation
- Find Richo there and assassinate her afterwards
- Enter the cabin then to rescue the kidnapped child and walk her home
Paper Trail, Chrysalis – Kacho’s Location
- Head north of the Temple of Osaka, next to where you found the red butterfly.
- Talk to the paper merchant in the house decorated by paper umbrellas.
- Visit a cabin surrounded by carved stones northwest of the Fishermen’s District.
- Find the note confirming Kacho’s hideout, which is at the northern part of Nishinomaru Garden, in a garden full of butterflies
- Fight and defeat Kacho. She’ll then point you back to Gamemaker in her dying speech.
Final Decision and Rewards
Return to the Gamemaker to complete The Butterfly Collector quest locations journey. You’ll choose whether to kill or spare her, but you’ll get all rewards either way.
