There are plenty of activities to do throughout feudal Japan in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. This includes riddle encounters with NPC characters that allow players to earn valuable rewards. Here is a guide on how you can solve all the AC Shadows riddles.

How to Find AC Shadows Riddles

AC Shadows riddles aren’t tied to specific locations unlike in other games. Instead, they’re part of the random NPC encounters you’ll have as you travel along roads or settlements. Usually, a riddle encounter happens when an NPC begins speaking as you approach them.

It’ll be difficult to seek them out intentionally as these encounters are completely random. You just have to be observant and interact with any NPCs at most times to find this encounter. Plus, both Yasuke and Naoe can access these riddles. Although some sources shared that Naoe has higher chances of specific encounters than Yasuke.

What are the Rewards

Although AC Shadows riddle encounters can be intimidating for those who are weak with it, it still provides a rewarding experience. Players may get any of these rewards after successfully answering the riddle:

  • World Rumor: Reveals and marks an undiscovered point of interest on your map within the region where you helped the NPC. This could be a side quest, legendary chest, castle location, or other activity.
  • Scout Intel: Replenishes one of your deployed scouts, allowing you to reuse them without waiting for the usual cooldown period. This option may not be available if you already have all scouts available.

The Tobacco Smoke Riddle Solution

This serves as one of the most common AC Shadows riddle encounters in the game. It simply involves a man who challenges you to a wager of 50 mon. The NPC presents the riddle as follows:

“I am sucked in from the bottom and let out from the mouth. What am I?”

The correct answer is “Is it tobacco smoke?”

After answering correctly, they’ll offer you to choose between these two options:

  1. Take back your 50 mon plus an additional 50 mon (100 mon total)
  2. Let the man keep the money in exchange for either world rumor information or scout intel

It’ll be far more valuable to choose the second option than the 50 mon profit. Getting helpful Intel about your current quest gives you a better reward.

The Seashell Province Riddle Solution

Another common NPC riddle encounter in AC Shadows is with a noblewoman showing you a seashell. The question will appear as:

“Which province does the seashell come from?”

The correct answer is “I believe it’s from Wakasa.”

It is more of a geographical knowledge test for players rather than a traditional riddle. Among the choices provided, Wakasa is the only coastal province that makes sense to produce seashells.

The Fukui Curse Encounter

While this is not completely a riddle encounter, it is still a notable part of your NPC encounter experiences. This involves the locals complaining about the “Fukui Curse”, and asking you for monetary help. The options include helping them or giving them mon and refusing their request.

The correct response is to “Refuse” their request. This would be the most appropriate solution for this encounter since the curse doesn’t really exist.

Final Thoughts

AC Shadows riddles encounters are just another way to enjoy the game beyond the thrilling action. It’s enough to make you think twice and contemplate the choices you’ll make to earn useful rewards. With these correct answers, you’ll be able to maximize the rewards to complete quests.
