Quest Requirements and Details
Players can access the AC Shadows Tournament quest after finishing “The Hunt Continues” from the main quest line. By this point, you’ll have defeated 9 of the 12 Shinbakufu members which will automatically trigger the quest. It also seems that only players around level 30-40 are able to actually complete it.
After meeting the above requirements, you’ll find Gyoji outside your hideout. Speaking to him will tell you about the quest and give you the Tournament Invitation item.
AC Shadows Tournament Quest Walkthrough
After receiving the invitation from Gyoji, you’ll embark on a journey to the Ominesanji Temple. It’s located in the Yamato region, and you can easily access it through fast-travel points. The closest one is the Ominesanji Overlook, and you can also go to the Ominesanji Kakurega alternatively. If you haven’t unlocked either of these points, you can walk through Yoshino or Mount Hakkyo to reach the location.
At the Ominesanji Temple, you can switch between Yasuke and Naoe, whoever you prefer. However, it’s recommended to play as Yasuke in this quest as you’ll be met with several one-on-one battles. Speaking to Gyoji again will let you know the quest objectives. You’ll have to fight four strong opponents and defeat them before challenging the champion.
Once you’re ready, you can ring the bell next to the arena to begin your first match. Take note that you’ll get breaks between each fight, so there’s no need to worry. You can take your time and ring the bell again when you’re ready for the next round.

Lady Masago
- Weapon: Naginata
- Fighting style: Mid-range attacks
- Recommended strategy: Dodge her attacks and strike at every opening
Lord Suguru
- Weapon: Katana
- Fighting style: Swift melee attacks
- Recommended strategy: Similar to the first fight, dodge or parry incoming attacks and strike quickly when there’s an opening
Lord Hokuto
- Weapon: Kanabo
- Fighting style: Heavy, red-glowing attacks

Lady O-sen
- Weapon: Katana, kunai, and shuriken
- Fighting style: Melee and ranged poison attacks
- Recommended strategy: Avoid and block the ranged attacks or prevent her from throwing ranged weapons by staying close. Perform quick successive strikes during the cooldown on her attacks.
Lord Unkai (Champion)
- Weapon: Naginata
- Fighting style: Mid-range attacks, long attack chains, can consume health potions
- Recommended strategy: If playing as Naoe, you can cut off his attack chain with long range attacks from a kunai or shuriken, then get close to perform quick successive strikes with your melee weapon. If you’re playing as Yasuke, you can equip the kanabo weapon and deal constant heavy damage to prevent him from attacking too often. Remember not to get too far as he can drink a health potion.
Final Tips and Rewards
We recommend a fully-upgraded long katana for this quest to deal the best damage without compromising too much of other aspects. Otherwise, a kanabo or naginata would also work fine against enemies wielding a different weapon.
For armor, equipping the engraving that allows you to parry red-glowing attacks is important to help with your survivability. You should also equip ones that allow you to pierce through your opponents’ armor easily.
