2XKO Patch 1.2.1 | How the new Teamfight Fuse works | Duo matchmaking and voice chat guide

Riot just released 2XKO Patch 1.2.1, and it specifically targets players who love the 2v2 co-op experience. If you have been waiting for a reason to jump back in with a friend or find a completely new partner, this update brings huge additions to how you play together. The patch introduces a brand new mechanic called the Teamfight Fuse, officially integrates in-game matchmaking for duos, and shifts the defensive meta by changing how Fury and Assists work.

2XKO Patch 1.2.1 changes | Why blocking Fury is finally safe | Ahri and Akali bug fixes for ranked

2XKO: Patch 1.2.1 Co-op & Combat Tracker

Feature Category Key Details Tactical Advice
Teamfight Fuse New Mechanic Simultaneous 2v2 control for 7 seconds. Costs 1 bar per player; use it to break stubborn defenses.
Duo Queue Matchmaking In-game “Find a Duo” button. No more third-party LFG apps; find partners directly in-client.
Voice Chat Communication Open-mic Duo Voice Chat. Off by default. Enable in Settings > Text & Voice Chat.
Fury Buff Defense Blocking Fury = Wall Bounce. Now functions like Break; much safer to defend against.
Assist CDR Comeback CD reduced to 2s (was 3s). Faster access to Super Assists when playing solo “Anchor.”
Ahri Fix Bug Fix Orb destroyed on Parry. Ahri mains can no longer “free-pressure” after a successful parry.

We are breaking down exactly how the new Teamfight system functions so you can stop getting run over in ranked. We also look at the stealthy system updates that will keep you from getting mixed up by Akali and Ahri players who abuse bugs.

How the new Teamfight Fuse actually works

The biggest feature in Patch 1.2.1 is the Teamfight Fuse. This new option lets both players control their champions on the screen at the exact same time.

Activating Teamfight costs one bar of meter for each player. You trigger the mechanic by pressing the Team button along with any normal attack button. Once activated, you and your partner get seven seconds of pure simultaneous combat to pressure your opponent.

This Fuse comes with strict limitations to keep matches balanced. While Teamfight is active, your team cannot use Tag Launchers, Assists, or Break. You are also completely locked out of using Ultimates during this window. The offensive pressure is slightly restricted because the Assist character’s attacks will only hit mid. On the defensive side, any hit landed on the Teamfighting duo reduces their active timer. If the defending team manages to land an Ultimate, the Teamfight ends instantly.

Built in duo matchmaking and voice comms

Finding a partner is now built directly into the game client. Players can click the plus sign in the menu and select the “Find a Duo” option. The matchmaking system will then automatically pair you with another player looking for a co-op teammate.

To make communication easier for random pairs, Riot added in-game Duo Voice Chat. This feature is turned off by default. You can enable it by heading into the Settings menu, selecting Text & Voice Chat, and toggling the option on. The game uses an open microphone system with no push-to-talk option right now. Your microphone goes live the moment you enter a lobby with another player who has the setting enabled.

Massive changes to defense and comeback potential

Patch 1.2.1 makes it much easier to stage a comeback after losing your point champion. The developers reduced the Assist cooldown penalty after a champion gets knocked out. The cooldown timer dropped from three seconds down to two seconds. This specific change gives the surviving player faster access to Super Assists and team pushblocks when trapped in the corner.

Fury activation also received a major consistency update. Blocking a Fury activation now guarantees a wall bounce, making it function exactly like blocking a Break. This removes the unfair advantage players used to get when activating Fury during block stun.

Character bug fixes that change the meta

The update cleans up several character specific bugs that were causing frustration in high level matches. Ahri players will notice that Orb Deception is now properly destroyed upon parry, and her Spirit attacks chain correctly during rare screen locks. Akali lost a highly abused setup because her Charged Twilight Reaper no longer connects with airborne opponents outside of a combo. Finally, Darius received a minor buff that reduces the knockback on Coward’s Bane when it gets blocked by airborne fighters.

Jump into practice mode and test the Teamfight Fuse with your partner to get the timing down. If you queue up solo, double check your voice settings before you hop into a lobby so you do not accidentally broadcast your background noise. Expect the meta to shift quickly as players figure out the optimal seven-second block strings with the new Fuse equipped.
