007 First Light Officially Hit With Another Major Delay

007 First Light has been delayed on Nintendo Switch 2 and will now launch in March 2027, IO Interactive has confirmed. The Switch 2 version was previously expected during summer 2026, but the developer says it needs additional time to optimize the game for Nintendo’s hardware.

The delay only affects the Switch 2 port. 007 First Light is already available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, following its May 2026 release.

007 First Light Switch 2 Release Moves to March 2027

IO Interactive announced the revised release window several months after revealing plans to bring 007 First Light to Switch 2 in summer 2026.

The port is now scheduled for March 2027, putting its Nintendo debut almost a year after the game’s original release. An exact launch date hasn’t been announced and will be shared later.

According to IOI, the additional development time will be used to ensure 007 First Light runs smoothly on Switch 2.

The delay means Nintendo players will have to wait considerably longer than those on other platforms, but development on the port is continuing.

Switch 2 Version Will Be Playable at Tokyo Game Show

Players attending Tokyo Game Show 2026, which runs from September 17 through September 21, will still have an opportunity to try the Switch 2 version.

IO Interactive confirmed that the demo previously shown at Gamescom will also be available during the Japanese event.

The presence of a playable build indicates development remains active despite the move to March 2027.

Will 007 First Light Use a Switch 2 Game-Key Card?

The delay has also renewed discussion about how IO Interactive will handle the game’s physical Switch 2 release.

Some players are hoping for a complete physical edition stored directly on a game card rather than Nintendo’s Game-Key Card format, which requires users to download the game after inserting the card.

Storage could make that challenging.

007 First Light requires approximately 80 GB, while a 64GB Switch 2 game card wouldn’t have enough capacity to contain the existing version without changes or additional downloads.

Some third-party publishers have opted for Game-Key Cards as an alternative, but IO Interactive hasn’t confirmed which format it intends to use for 007 First Light.

For now, any details about the physical Switch 2 edition remain unconfirmed.

007 First Light Has Continued Receiving Updates

While Switch 2 players wait, IO Interactive has continued updating the existing versions as part of its year-one content plans.

The Behind Enemy Lines update arrived in late July, introducing additional TacSim missions, weapons, and unlockable outfits.

It also included more than 200 bug fixes and other improvements based on player feedback. Among the addressed problems were crashes affecting the Xbox Series S version.

The updates form part of IOI’s ongoing post-launch support for its James Bond game.

PC Version Now Supports Path Tracing

The PC edition has also received a significant visual upgrade with the addition of path tracing.

Players with compatible Nvidia GeForce RTX graphics cards can enable the enhanced lighting option, with IO Interactive highlighting hardware such as the RTX 5070 or better for the feature.

Enabling path tracing also automatically activates DLSS Ray Reconstruction, which is used to improve image quality when rendering ray-traced effects.

007 First Light Could Be the Start of More Bond Games

007 First Light presents an original origin story for James Bond, following the character before and during his transformation into MI6’s 007 agent.

The project comes from IO Interactive, the studio behind the Hitman series, and its release was met with favorable reviews that particularly highlighted its story and combat sequences.

Its reception has also raised questions about whether more Bond games could follow. Amazon executive Jeff Gattis has discussed the possibility of additional games based on the franchise, although no follow-up project has been officially announced.

For the moment, IO Interactive still has work to do on 007 First Light itself. The Switch 2 version is now targeting March 2027, with a specific release date still to come as the studio continues optimizing the game for Nintendo’s console.
